Help your house reduce a few degrees very quickly with just a fan

Place a fan as high as possible facing a window. This will push hot air out, helping to cool your home a few degrees.

The heat is on and it’s been a long day. Without air conditioning, your home can feel like a sauna. But did you know that even a regular electric fan can help keep your home cool?

Electric fans are cheap and almost every house has them (not steam fans, air conditioners or misting fans). Applying these simple tricks will help your room drop a few degrees very quickly, according to Brightnest.

1. Create a headwind

Creating a headwind is a very effective change, pushing hot air out and pulling cool air in.

The first step is to close the windows, blinds, and curtains when the sun comes up. The goal is to block the heat from entering the house. Although this makes the house dark, it is effective in this hot weather.

When the sun sets, when the temperature outside is cooler than inside, open the doors. Use two fans, the first facing the door, to push the hot air out. Then, in another location, use a second fan, place it outside the door, facing into the house, turn it up to a higher setting to push the cool air in. This will cause the outside fan to overwhelm the inside fan, pushing the hot air out, bringing the cold air in.

2. High windows

This trick will push all the hot air out. If you have a tall window (congratulations), place the fan as high as possible and point it towards the window. You can use a ladder or shelf to help position the fan. The general principle is that cold air sinks and hot air rises. The higher you place the fan, the more hot air it will push out.

3. Change the direction of the ceiling fan

In the summer, set your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise instead of clockwise. Normally, fans that rotate clockwise are used in the winter, and they blow warm air around the room. So in the summer, set your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise.let it run in reverseto push cold air down.

The reason a ceiling fan circulates air is because of the angle of the blades. The surface of the blades allows it to scoop up air. The direction of the fan you choose will determine whether the blades scoop up the hot air above or the cool air below.

4. Make homemade air conditioner

If you don't have air conditioning, make your own. Place a fan on the floor, as low as possible. Place a bucket of ice in front of the fan. The fan will blow cold air to cool you down quickly.

If you leave it directly like that, the ice will melt faster. Therefore, you can cover the ice basin with a wet towel, which will keep it cool and the ice will melt slower.
