(Baonghean.vn) - Xavier Bertrand, head of the Calais city government in France, said on August 29.believe that it is necessaryThere are new regulations in place to deal with the influx of refugees attempting to reach Britain via the Channel Tunnel.

Bertrand told the BBC that asylum seekers in the UK should be prepared for deportation to their home countries at "hot spots" like Calais, where those whose asylum applications are rejected are immediately deported.

According to the Le Touquet Agreement, signed by Britain and France in 2003, British officials are allowed to check the passports of migrants entering and leaving the UK at the entrance to the Channel Tunnel in Calais. While the European Union (EU) stipulates that asylum seekers must apply in their first country of arrival, many prefer to apply in the UK.

So, for many years, thousands of people have camped in the area north of Calais and tried to sneak onto trucks and trains to get to England.

However, the Calais border agreement is not expected to be discussed during British Home Secretary Amber Rudd's visit to Paris on August 30th. There, she will meet with her French counterpart, Bernard Cazeneuve, to discuss security issues.

Furthermore, the French Interior Ministry stated in a statement on August 29th: "We are committed to continuing to work together to protect our common border in the Calais region and to maintaining the current passport control points. The French government has repeatedly made it clear that removing the passport control mechanism in Calais would not benefit France."
