Livelihood support for women members to escape poverty

(Baonghean.vn) - With appropriate methods, the Women's Union at all levels in Tan Ky and Nghia Dan (Nghe An) actively supports women to have more jobs and increase family income.

In Tan Huong commune (Tan Ky), 7 households with 17 workers have formed a tree nursery association group in hamlet 3. The district association has coordinated with the Agricultural Extension Station to transfer tree nursery techniques to women. After one year of operation, each worker on average produced 200,000 acacia seedlings, earning an income of about 64 million VND, after deducting expenses, the net profit is 40 million VND/year.

The above model has supported many families of women members to escape poverty. At the same time, the District Women's Union has also mobilized ethnic minority women in the district to restore the brocade weaving profession to increase their income during the off-season.

In Thai Minh village alone, Tien Ky commune, 100% of households are Thai ethnic people. In 2014, the whole village had 45 households weaving brocade, and now there are over 85 households participating. On average, each year, people produce over 20,000 products of all kinds with a total income of over 2.6 billion VND.

In Nghia Dan district, the Center for Vocational Training and Employment Promotion of the Provincial Women's Union coordinated to open a broom-weaving vocational training class in Nghia Hoi commune. The class had 28 students who were members of the Nghia Hoi commune Women's Union (including 3 disabled students).

During the 1 month, the students were equipped with basic knowledge of broom production techniques, from selecting raw materials, getting familiar with tools, spinning wire, cutting handles, wrapping brooms and completing the product. This is an important foundation for women to have additional jobs and increase their income.
