Syria wants to attract tourists with its long white sand beaches. |
Despite the civil war still raging in Syria, the Middle Eastern country's tourism ministry is working hard to attract international visitors.
Recently, the country's Ministry of Tourism released a video shot from above in an attempt to portray a completely different side of the country to tourists.
In the two-minute clip, viewers can see aerial images of the famous coastal town of Tartus - a sea of clear blue water and white sand beaches with no signs of war.
The city of Tartus on the Mediterranean coast is home to Syria's second largest port and a Russian naval base.
Earlier this year, the port city was hit by a series of suicide bombings that killed 140 people.
The Syrian Ministry of Tourism's website also suggests tourist destinations such as Palmyra - a UNESCO world heritage site that was looted and destroyed by IS, or Latakia - where Russian forces are setting up an airbase.
In a statement on the official Facebook page of the Syrian Ministry of Tourism, it said that tourist arrivals to the country have increased by 30%.
Syria has been engulfed in a bloody civil war between the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and rebels there since 2011, between the US-led coalition and the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).
According to UN estimates, the ongoing violence between Assad's forces, rebels, and IS has so far forced about 470,000 people and displaced thousands of others./.
