AFP reported that German soldiers departed from Berlin to Mali on May 28 on a commercial Air France flight that transited in Paris.

Their weapons and ammunition were properly registered for transport. However, when the plane landed in Mali, a plastic crate containing 800 rounds of ammunition was missing.

"We are still looking for it," a spokesman for the German military logistics agency confirmed the information.

The German military also reported the incident to Berlin police.

A German Defense Ministry spokesman said "the responsibility lies with Air France." The airline has not yet commented.

Germany is taking part in the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali and also has 200 soldiers in the European force training Malian soldiers.
