In the early morning of September 4th, residents of a row of rented rooms in Tan Dong Hiep ward, Di An town, Binh Duong province, heard cries for help coming from a burning room belonging to Tran Van Dong (26 years old, from Quang Binh province) and his wife. People rushed to help, but the door was locked from the outside, and the air was thick with the smell of gasoline.

According to initial investigations, a few days ago, Mr. Dong's wife's younger sister received death threats via text message from her ex-boyfriend after the young woman decided to break up with him. Around 1:30 AM today, Mr. Dong and his wife woke up to find their rented room engulfed in flames. They were unsuccessful in breaking down the door as it was locked from the outside.

"Based on the victim's testimony and the results of the on-site investigation, we suspect this was an arson attack," an investigating officer said.

Police are searching for the perpetrator.
