Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has signed a four-year contract with the Manchester club, promising to become an important player under the new regime.

Gundogan is a top Bundesliga central midfielder, suited to the style of play Pep Guardiola pursues.

Man City had to pay Dortmund around $30 million for the 25-year-old midfielder. Gundogan is a favorite of Pep Guardiola and Man City made him the first signing under the new Catalan coach.

"I was thrilled when I heard that Man City wanted me. It all happened so quickly," Gundogan told Man City's website. "The opportunity to work with Pep is something I've always wanted. It's an honour to be the club's first signing this summer."

"I will do everything to help the team win the English title as well as the Champions League. The best time of my career is ahead and I hope we can achieve many successes together."

The German international could be a gamble for City given his history of serious injuries. Gundogan is currently recovering from a dislocated knee sustained in training in early May. The injury kept him out of Euro 2016 and the start of City's season. Gundogan missed much of the 2013-14 campaign with a back problem, and was unable to represent Germany at the World Cup in Brazil.

Gundogan joined Dortmund in 2011, helping the team win the Bundesliga, the German Cup and reach the Champions League final. He is the second mainstay to leave Dortmund this summer, after Mats Hummels joined Bayern.
