Heartbreaking tragedies in the 'ghost month'

2 Yen Bai leaders were shot dead;The bloody massacre that killed four people in a family in Yen Bai; a young mother killing three children in Lao Cai;... are tragic cases that have stirred up public opinion during the "ghost month".

1- Two leaders of Yen Bai province were shot in their office.

On the morning of August 18 (July 16 of the lunar calendar), Yen Bai Provincial Party Secretary Pham Duy Cuong and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, concurrently Head of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee's Organization Board Ngo Ngoc Tuan were shot and seriously injured in their office by the Head of the Yen Bai Provincial Forest Protection Department, Do Cuong Minh. Mr. Minh then used the gun to commit suicide. All three later died in the hospital.

According to Major General Dang Tran Chieu - Director of Yen Bai Provincial Police, during the investigation of the scene, the authorities determined that the perpetrator fired 8 shots. At the office of the Provincial Party Secretary, 4 bullets were found, and at the office of the Provincial Party Committee's Organizing Committee, 4 bullets were also found.

2- Police lieutenant was beaten to death on the way to work

On August 3 (July 1 of the lunar calendar), public opinion was stirred up by the case of Lieutenant Do Tuan Hoan (born in 1987, Quoc Oai District Police) being beaten to death by 3 subjects including Dao Van Vinh (born in 1977, residing in Quoc Oai, Hanoi), Nguyen Van Thuy (born in 1988, residing in Ba Vi, Hanoi) and Nguyen Quang Duyen (born in 1986, residing in Phuc Tho, Hanoi) on his way to work.

The incident occurred when the three subjects were taking a taxi on the dike road. When they were not allowed to overtake Mr. Hoan's car, they got angry and overtook the police lieutenant's car and then beat him to death. The police are currently completing the documents to handle the subjects according to the law.

3- Massacre of 4 people in Lao Cai

On August 9 (7/7 lunar calendar), Mr. Tan Ong Nai (born in 1994, residing in Phin Ngan village, Trinh Tuong commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai) and his parents returned from working in the fields and discovered his wife, Ms. Tan Ta May (born in 1994), lying dead in a pond about 100m from their house; his daughter Tan Mai Phuong (born in 2014) died in a stream, with many rocks pressing on her; his second daughter, only 20 days old, and his niece Tan Thuy Chi (born in 2010) died in a ditch, 100m from their house.

The details of the incident were immediately released, shocking the public. Authorities quickly intervened and confirmed that this was a murder.

The suspect was identified as Tan Lao Lo (24 years old, local), who had a relationship with Ms. May (Mr. Nai's wife). After the incident, Lo fled to the forest. Up to now, after nearly a month, the police investigation agency has mobilized hundreds of soldiers to set up checkpoints to capture Lo, but he is still at large.

4- Ex-son-in-law murdered mother-in-law and sister-in-law

On August 11 (July 9 of the lunar calendar), Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1972, residing in Vu Thu district, Thai Binh) used a knife to stab to death Nguyen Thi Tinh (60 years old, Tuan's ex-wife's mother) and Bui Thi Hue (born in 1978, ex-wife's younger sister).

It is known that Nguyen Van Tuan was previously married to Ms. Bui Thi Huong, the daughter of Ms. Tinh, but they divorced. During the time they were still married, Ms. Huong received 10 million VND from Ms. Hue to help her go to Taiwan. When she went to work abroad, Ms. Huong sent money back to her father-in-law to ask him to return it to Ms. Hue.

However, after divorcing Ms. Huong, Tuan repeatedly claimed that Ms. Hue had borrowed the 10 million from him, so he repeatedly demanded the 30 million in principal and interest. On August 11, Tuan took a knife to the store where Ms. Hue was selling, stabbed Ms. Hue and his ex-mother-in-law to death.

5- 9x mother kills 3 children, burns down house and then hides in forest

The massacre that killed 4 people in a family in Lao Cai had not yet caught the perpetrator, but on August 15 (July 13 of the lunar calendar), public opinion was once again shocked by the news that a 25-year-old woman named Phan Mui May (living in Quang Minh village, Quang Nguyen commune, Xin Man district) killed her 3 biological children, burned down her house, and then escaped into the deep forest.

At the authorities, May confessed all his crimes.

Out of jealousy and anger towards her husband, May bought pesticide and mixed it with rice for the four of them to eat, but they did not die. After that, this woman used a rope to strangle her three children, Trieu Mui Mui (5 years old), Trieu Van Choi (3 years old) and Trieu Thi Hue (14 months old), to death, then burned down the house. May herself ran into the forest. On the evening of August 16, May was arrested by the Ha Giang Provincial Police while hiding in the forest.
