After two months of special treatment in an incubator, on August 31, baby Gau was discharged from the hospital to the happiness of his family.

Meritorious physician, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Loi, Director of the Center for Newborn Care and Treatment, Central Maternity Hospital, said that after 2 months of treatment, the health of baby Gau, the son of cancer patient Dau Thi Huyen Tram, has improved.

Because he was born to a mother with cancer, baby Gau suffered from severe respiratory failure and lost weight in the first days of treatment. After that, the doctors took care of him and he regained his original weight. After more than a month, he gained from 1.2 kg to 1.8 kg.

The baby can now drink 30-40 ml of milk on his own. The family can hold the baby so that the baby can feel the warmth of their body.

Dr. Le Minh Trac, Deputy Director of the Center, said that during the care at the hospital, the patient's respiratory system was normal, and he did not need a ventilator or oxygen for a long time. Currently, his eyes and hearing are normal and will continue to be monitored in the coming time.

Mr. Ha, Gau's father, shared that the family did not take the child back to their hometown immediately but stayed at the Ministry of Public Security's guest house to conveniently take care of and take Gau for regular check-ups according to hospital regulations.

Being a first-time father, he confided: “I was very happy when the doctor announced that the baby could be discharged from the hospital, but I was also very worried because the baby was still too young. Before picking up the baby, the hospital doctors and nurses also instructed me and my family on how to hold, bathe and feed the baby, but I was still very confused.”

Even though his wife is no longer by his side, he believes that the father and son will overcome all difficulties together so that Ms. Tram can feel at ease.

The story of Lieutenant Dau Thi Huyen Tram, who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer but refused treatment to keep her child, has touched many people. Although no miracle happened when the mother passed away and only got to see her child once, the peace of Gau is a great comfort to the family.
