Prime Minister directs handling of shooting incident at Yen Bai province leader

The Prime Minister emphasized that this is a great loss and an especially serious incident ever in Yen Bai as well as the whole country.

The incident occurred on the morning of August 18, when Do Cuong Minh, Head of the Yen Bai Provincial Forest Protection Department, used a military gun to shoot comrade Pham Duy Cuong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and shot comrade Ngo Ngoc Tuan, member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, and Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Committee. After shooting comrades Cuong and Tuan, Do Cuong Minh used the gun to commit suicide.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited the two victims at the provincial general hospital on the morning of August 18.

After discovering the incident, Yen Bai provincial leaders urgently directed to take comrade Pham Duy Cuong, comrade Ngo Ngoc Tuan and subject Do Cuong Minh to Yen Bai provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment, but all three have now died.

Immediately after the incident, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc went directly to Yen Bai to grasp the situation, work with provincial leaders and direct the incident. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that this is a great loss and an especially serious incident ever in Yen Bai in particular and the whole country in general.

The Prime Minister stated that handling this particularly serious incident is the shared responsibility of all levels and sectors of Yen Bai province. The biggest requirement is to remain calm and maintain all normal management and operation activities of the Party Committee, government and political system in the province.

Doctors from Yen Bai General Hospital and doctors from central hospitals came down to support.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Public Security to deploy forces to coordinate with Yen Bai Provincial Police to urgently investigate and conclude the case in a specific and legal manner, report to the authorities and make it public for people to know.

The Prime Minister requested the Public Security and Defense sectors in Yen Bai to strengthen professional plans; absolutely not to let bad situations happen, causing political instability and social order and safety in the area.

In addition, the province also needs to focus on supporting, caring for and ensuring the safety of both the lives and health of the relatives and families of the victims and the relatives of the perpetrators; doing a good job of information and communication work to ensure stability of public opinion surrounding the incident.
