US - China will discuss the East Sea on the sidelines of G20

The White House announced that the East Sea will be a main content of the US-China summit on the sidelines of the G20.

Yonhap today quoted a White House statement saying that tensions on the Korean Peninsula and disputes in the East Sea between China and some neighboring countries will be the main topics in talks between US President Barack Obama and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.Group of 20 Developed and Emerging Economies (G20)on September 3rd.

US Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes said the two sides will also address other topics such as economic cooperation, climate change, cybersecurity, efforts to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons through agreements on the Iran issue, and the human rights situation in China.

US President Barack Obama is expected to arrive in China this weekend to attendG20 summit from September 4-5 in Hangzhou.

The sideline talks on September 3 took place in the context of the US and China having disagreements regarding the East Sea issue and theBeijing protestsWashington plans to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system in South Korea.
