How to arrange traditional Mid-Autumn Festival tray

The way to display a traditional Mid-Autumn Festival tray is quite simple, usually including: lanterns, fruits, cakes.

While on other holidays, the tray of offerings is usually solemnly displayed, on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, the tray of offerings tends to be more formal and creative. Depending on the skill of the person arranging the tray, the tray of offerings can be arranged large, small, high or low, with many different shapes.

However, a Mid-Autumn Festival tray must always be complete: moon cakes, 5 types of fruit, and lanterns.

1. Fruit

Depending on the region, each place will choose different types of fruit. However, usually there will be typical fruits of Vietnam this season such as bananas, grapefruit, persimmons, watermelons, custard apples, pomegranates, guavas... to have at least 5 types of fruit. The fruits are chosen to be harmonious in form, balanced in color, with green and ripe fruits symbolizing the balance of yin and yang.

You can arrange fruits on a tray, or you can create a tumbler shape from guava, orange, persimmon; a puppy shape from grapefruit... The fruit plate will be placed in the middle of the mid-autumn festival tray.

2. Moon Cake:

Traditional Vietnamese mooncakes include baked and soft cakes. The most traditional filling is mixed. However, today, the cakes have been transformed into many different shapes, with all kinds of fillings such as fruit, cream, milk, caramel, jelly...

In terms of form, traditional cakes are mainly square cakes, but today there are also pig cakes, fish cakes, moon cakes, sunken flower cakes, floating flower cakes...

Moon cakes are usually placed solemnly on both sides of the fruit plate (large cakes) or arranged around the fruit plate (small cakes or shaped cakes).

3. Traditional lamps

You can use small lanterns or small star lights on both sides of the tray to create a sparkling light for the Mid-Autumn Festival tray.

If you are camping outdoors, you can hang lanterns/star lanterns around to make the food and atmosphere more joyful and brilliant...
