The police have worked with 24 individuals involved in this theft ring to assist in the investigation and to recover all stolen goods, returning them to their owners.
During initial questioning at the police station, the suspects confessed to committing 32 motorcycle thefts in Phu Yen and Gia Lai provinces. Their modus operandi involved riding motorcycles in pairs along roads, entering alleys, and observing residential areas. When they spotted motorcycles parked unattended in front of houses, or left in secluded areas or public places without supervision, they would use tools to break the locks and steal the vehicles.
Afterward, they used fake license plates pre-ordered in Ho Chi Minh City or removed license plates from one locality and attached them to vehicles from another, then waited for a favorable opportunity to sell them or find buyers. They sold Sirius motorcycles for only 2-3 million VND, Exciter motorcycles with papers for over 10 million VND, and those without papers for 7-8 million VND...
From the end of 2015 to August 2016, the police continuously received reports of motorcycle thefts, mainly targeting Sirius and Exciter models. In response to this situation, the Criminal Police Department advised the Provincial Police Director to establish Special Case 716T to combat this crime. Based on information gathered from various sources, the Special Case team confirmed that a professional motorcycle theft ring had emerged in Phu Yen province, operating in a mobile manner with sophisticated and audacious methods. Therefore, they mobilized forces and implemented a comprehensive set of operational measures to combat this crime.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the Phu Yen Provincial Police recently launched a crackdown, simultaneously attacking from multiple directions and arresting the four suspects mentioned above.
Currently, 27 motorcycles of various types have been recovered and returned to the victims.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department.
