Tan Ky held public trials for two cases: theft and gambling.

(Baonghean.vn) - On September 28, the People's Court of Tan Ky District held a public trial to hear two criminal cases: theft of property and gambling.

* Regarding the property theft caseAccording to the indictment, between June 1st and June 10th, 2016, Nguyen Van Tam (born in 1987) and Cao Hung Cuong (born in 1986), both residing in Dong Tam hamlet, Nghia Hoan commune, Tan Ky district, jointly committed five acts of theft, stealing five motorbikes with a total loss of nearly 70 million VND.

The court sentenced Nguyen Van Tam to 4 years in prison and Cao Hung Cuong to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

The defendants' criminal acts constituted the crime of "Theft of property" as stipulated in point e, clause 2, Article 138 of the Penal Code; both defendants had previous convictions, with Tam having been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Ba Thuoc District People's Court, Thanh Hoa province for "Theft of property"; Cuong had been sentenced to 16 months imprisonment by the Tuong Duong District People's Court and 21 months imprisonment by the Quy Chau District People's Court, both for "Theft of property".

Based on the severity of the crimes and the evidence collected, the Trial Panel sentenced Nguyen Van Tam to 4 years in prison and Cao Hung Cuong to 3 years and 6 months in prison.

*According to the details of the gambling case.At 5:40 PM on July 11, 2016, at the barbershop of Phan Van Huu (born in 1980) in Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune, Tan Ky district, the Tan Ky district police caught Phan Van Huu red-handed gambling in the form of lottery betting with 10 other individuals from the same commune and neighboring areas. The total amount gambled by Phan Van Huu was 9,710,000 VND. Phan Van Huu's actions constituted the crime of "Gambling," punishable under Clause 1, Article 248 of the Penal Code.

Defendant Phan Van Huu was sentenced to 9 months in prison, suspended for 18 months on probation.

Regarding the individuals who participated in gambling with suspect Phan Văn Hữu, they have no prior criminal record, and the amount of gambling involved was not large enough to warrant criminal prosecution. The Tân Kỳ District Police Department has therefore imposed administrative penalties.

Based on the severity of the crimes and the collected evidence, the Trial Panel sentenced Nguyen Van Tam to 4 years imprisonment, Cao Hung Cuong to 3 years and 6 months imprisonment, and defendant Phan Van Huu to 9 months imprisonment with a suspended sentence and a probationary period of 18 months.
