Counterfeit Cephalexin 500mg tablets have appeared.

The Drug Administration Department (Ministry of Health) has just issued a document to the health departments of provinces and centrally-administered cities; and hospitals under the Ministry of Health providing information about counterfeit Cephalexin 500mg, Registration No.: YD-4682-08, manufactured by Vidipha Central Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam stated that it had previously received information from the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Drug Testing reporting the discovery of a drug sample named Cephalexin 500mg with the following information on the label: Cephalexin 500mg capsules, Registration No.: YD-4682-08, Batch No.: 07705124, Manufacturing Date (Mid) 8/2014-, Expiry Date (Exp) 8/2017, Manufacturer: Vidipha Central Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.The drug sample was collected by the Tra Vinh Testing Center at Minh Ngoc Drug Store, Hamlet 5, Cang Long Town, Cang Long District, Tra Vinh Province. The sample did not show a qualitative reaction for the active ingredient Cephalexin. The Drug Administration of Vietnam confirmed that this result indicates the drug is counterfeit.

To ensure user safety, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests that the Departments of Health of provinces and cities, and the health departments of various sectors, notify drug businesses and users that they are prohibited from trading or using the aforementioned infringing drugs.

Regarding the Tra Vinh Department of Health, the Drug Administration requested coordination with relevant authorities to inspect Minh Ngoc Pharmacy and related organizations and individuals to trace the origin of this batch of counterfeit Cephalexin 500mg capsules and handle it according to regulations. At the same time, Minh Ngoc Pharmacy was requested to urgently recall the counterfeit drugs already sold and to provide a full report on the quantity imported, exported, and in stock of these counterfeit Cephalexin 500mg capsules.
