(Baonghean.vn) - Previously, Ban Huoi Son was known as a hot spot for spontaneous migration in the border commune of Tam Hop, mountainous district of Tuong Duong. But after many efforts of the local government and the consensus of the local people, Huoi Son has been gradually changing.

Coming to Huoi Son village, Tam Hop border commune, Tuong Duong district this season, people have just harvested corn. Today, people are happier and more excited, because this year's corn crop is a bumper crop, and the village has been helped to build the 27th new house out of a total of 58 households in the village.

Here we were very surprised to hear the story of overcoming poverty of the young man Xong Ba Ly, who is considered by the locals to have turned hardship into happiness. Previously, Ly had migrated with his family many times from one mountain to another, even illegally crossing the border to Laos. This time he returned to his village and was determined to stabilize his life right in his own village.

Mr. Ly said, "Don't let yourself be poor. You have to believe in the Party and the State and not freely migrate to stabilize your life."

Village chief Vu Tong Long said: Not only Ba Ly's family but also the entire Huoi Son village and the Mong people do not like to stay in one place. That custom has been passed down from generation to generation, so in the past, although people clearly understood the benefits of settling down, many households still migrated freely.

They found it strange to be told to raise this animal, plant that tree. But then, when members of the Party Committee and the management board traveled to the forest edges, where there were farming households, and even with the help of the authorities to go to the households that migrated to Laos to persuade them, gradually the people listened.

By 2016, there were 58 households, 364 people who did not migrate freely, the village helped each other develop the economy by growing ginger, squash, green beans, taro, pineapple, raising fish, with an average income of 13-14 million a year.

Once people understood, it was no longer difficult to mobilize them to go down the mountain, find flat land to establish villages, and reclaim rice fields. The turning point in the journey to turn the wild land into a fertile, life-giving land like today was thanks to the efforts of the local government and the support of Tam Hop Border Guard Station and the Youth Entrepreneurship Team.

With the method of hand-holding, propaganda, and guidance, people are gradually transformed into livestock and crop structures, bringing hybrid rice and hybrid corn into production, and growing grass to raise cattle and buffaloes.

Families in difficulty were supported with technical skills and some seeds by the Border Guards. The most important thing was that the officers and soldiers of the Border Guard Station and the General Team helped people "open their eyes and minds" by implementing a pilot model of growing hybrid corn and raising crossbred Sind cows right at the station or growing commercial vegetables right at the General Team.

Up to now, people have reclaimed, restored and put into production over 3 hectares of rice fields, maintaining a herd of 250-300 buffaloes and cows.

Leaving Hoi Son, we felt the joy in the eyes of village chief Vu Tong Long and the villagers.
