Supplementary admission round 1: Schools are struggling to find candidates
After 10 days of receiving applications, the number of candidates registering for admission at schools in the Hanoi area was very small, each school only received a few hundred applications.
August 31 is the final deadline for candidates to submit applications for the first round of additional admission to universities, colleges and academies in 2016. However, on the same day, the number of candidates registering for the first round of additional admission was very small compared to the schools' quotas.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of August 29, 163 universities, academies, colleges and junior colleges nationwide have updated information on the first round of additional admissions with about 90,000 targets. After 10 days of receiving applications, the number of candidates registering for admission at schools in the Hanoi area is very small, each school only received a few hundred applications.

Many schools may not be able to recruit enough candidates. |
For example, the University of Business and Technology announced additional admissions of more than 2,000 students, but only received nearly 500 applications. Hanoi University of Science and Technology received more than 800 applications while the additional admission quota was about 800 candidates. Hanoi University received more than 600 applications.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Vice Principal of the Forestry University, said: “We are calling for over 1,000 additional positions. However, the number of candidates registering for additional wishes is about 235. They are still concentrated in a number of majors in the first round, so now they continue to register, and some majors that are determined to be difficult to recruit have a small number of applications. We are also considering and recruiting additional rounds according to regulations.”
Regarding the statistics of the test scores of candidates applying for admission, school leaders said that compared to the first round of admission, the number of candidates with high scores participating in the admission is not much, mainly with scores below 20. Schools with many candidates with high scores are mainly schools in the GX admission group, because these schools set the score for receiving applications equal to the first round of admission scores.
The number of applications for admission is small, but because candidates are allowed to apply to 3 schools in the additional admission round, schools believe that the virtual rate will be higher than in the first admission round.
Mr. Pham Ngoc Thach, Head of Training Department, Hanoi University said: "The virtual rate will certainly increase. The school's additional wishes are nearly 600, but even with more than 600 applications, it still cannot recruit enough, because a large number of them do not meet the conditions, do not meet the standard score compared to the first round's standard score. In principle, the school will not lower the standard score."
Mr. Nguyen Phong Dien, Head of Training Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology said: "The University of Science and Technology does not lower the benchmark score, so in theory, if there is a surplus, the benchmark score will be pushed up, or equal to the benchmark score."
Mr. Mai Duc Ngoc, Head of Training Management Board, Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that the school is considering 280 additional admission quotas, but has only received nearly 400 applications. Although the number of applications is higher than the additional enrollment quota, due to the large number of fake applications, it is possible that the school will not be able to recruit enough students.
By the end of the afternoon of August 31, schools had finished accepting applications for the first round of additional admission directly at the school. Although the schools announced the admission of about 90,000 additional quotas, by August 29, only over 41,000 candidates had registered for admission.
The number of candidates participating in the first round of additional admissions is low, making many schools worried that they will not be able to meet their enrollment targets even though they will continue to recruit in the next rounds./.
