Immediately after the autopsy and crime scene investigation, the body of Nguyen Thi Ha (40 years old), residing in Hamlet 18, Son Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, was handed over to her family for burial.

The police are currently detaining Ho Xuan Thuy (34 years old, Ha's brother-in-law) for further investigation. According to the authorities, the cause of Thuy's act of using a knife to rape her sister-in-law to death is still being clarified.

According to neighbors, the victim’s situation was very difficult. Ha’s husband died more than 5 years ago, so all the family burden fell on the young wife’s shoulders.

Ms. Ha has 3 children, the oldest is 17 years old, the youngest is only 10 years old. The 4 of them live in a small makeshift house. Ms. Ha usually sells at the market and does farming to make a living.

Her two older children, due to difficult circumstances, also dropped out of school and went to work as factory workers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. After receiving the bad news, the son who was working in Ho Chi Minh City was able to return home to see his mother one last time.

Previously, due to difficult family circumstances, Ms. Ha went to work abroad in Malaysia for 3 years and has only returned home for about a year now. During that time, her elderly grandmother stayed to take care of her 3 grandchildren who were still in school age.

At home, she worked hard in business, and no one in the neighborhood had ever heard her mention any intention of remarrying. She was gentle, considerate, always helped those around her, and had never raised her voice even once with her neighbors.

"On the day of the incident, no one knew what conflict had caused Thuy to be so angry. There had never been any arguments or conflicts before," said Mr. Lan, the head of hamlet 18.

Mr. Lan continued: "Ha ran into the neighbor's bathroom, but Thuy still kicked the door open and stabbed her in the neck with a sharp knife. After that, Thuy carried Ha out to the yard to call for help, but because she was bleeding too much, Ha died soon after."

A neighbor commented: "Thuy is a hot-tempered person, likes to gamble and drink. It seems that Thuy had been drinking before the incident." Thuy currently has 4 children, the oldest is 12 years old, and the youngest is only 3 years old. His wife sells ham and sausages, and her husband works as a welder, so their finances are not too difficult, the neighbor added.
