The following ornamental plants not only purify the air in the house but are also easy to care for and do not take up space, suitable for small houses.

It is a fact that whether you like it or not, your home always contains substances that are harmful to your health, the most common of which are benzene, trichloroethylene, ammonia... They can come from furniture, items such as beds, sofas, paint, plastic products, detergents or daily habits such as smoking.

And in the process of research, scientists have shown that in nature there are many types of plants that have a positive effect in purifying the air by absorbing harmful gases. Specifically, the following types of plants!

1. Bonsai

The Ficus tree, also known as the si, gua, thuc... is known as the top air-purifying ornamental plant. They help remove up to 70% of benzene, ammonia, toluene and other harmful impurities in the air. In particular, benzene and ammonia are substances that can be found in paint, lacquer, oil paint, cleaning products, rubber, computer components and cigarette smoke. These substances can cause cancer, nerve stimulation, difficulty breathing, convulsions or low blood pressure, easily causing chest pain as well as swelling of the larynx and lungs.

The Ficus bonsai is easy to grow and requires little care, but it does need sunlight during the day. You need to water it regularly from spring to autumn, gradually reducing the frequency from early September. In winter, the tree only needs to be watered every 10 days.

2. Pothos

According to an article posted on the website of the Institute of Applied Medicine, the pothos plant is considered one of the most effective air-purifying plants in the plant world. This plant can remove: formaldehyde, xylene, toluene, benzene, carbon monoxide...

In the 1980s, NASA and the American Landscape Contractors Association discovered that the peace lily has the ability to absorb formaldehyde, benzene, trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia. The plus point of this plant is that it is both beautiful and easy to care for, as it can grow in low-light environments but requires regular watering. However, to optimize its ability to clean the air, it is advisable to protect the plant from dust. Another thing to note is that you should keep this ornamental plant out of reach of children.

7. Bamboo palm

With a maximum height of only about 30cm, the bamboo palm can be planted in any space in the house. In addition to its attractive appearance, this plant also has the ability to filter benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene very effectively. Especially for furniture that often produces formaldehyde gas such as lacquer furniture, placing the bamboo palm next to it is an optimal choice because this plant can handle toxins quite well. The bamboo palm should be planted in a shady place and needs a lot of water.

Note:For the best air purification effect, instead of dividing the pots into small ones, you should gather several plants into a group in each room. Also according to the Institute of Applied Medicine, a house of about 185m² should grow about 15-20 plants, each plant should use a pot larger than 15cm.
