Lack of sleep

Getting enough sleep is great for your memory. Forgetfulness caused by lack of sleep can lead you to miss important opportunities.

A small study published in the journal Sleep showed that compared to men who slept 8 hours each night, men who slept only 4 hours were much more likely to experience memory impairment when under stress.

Anxiety

If you are constantly worried about trivial things, your memory will be impaired.

Sometimes, this is the reason why you can't remember a story a colleague told you. At that moment, you were most likely preoccupied with other thoughts.

Experts advise that if you experience severe anxiety symptoms, you should seek a therapist.

Information overload

The sheer volume of information on social media can distract you, making it difficult to concentrate and consolidate new memories. The brain can only process a certain amount of stimuli, and information overload slows down its processing speed.

If you want to increase your memory capacity, you shouldn't force your brain to focus on more than three things at the same time, nor should you expect to remember all the details.
