(Baonghean) - The Chau Binh auxiliary dam drainage canal project, part of the larger Ban Mong irrigation and hydropower project, is showing many unusual signs. People believe there is an underground river with strong water flow.

It is expected that by the end of 2016, the Chau Binh auxiliary dam drainage canal system will be completed. However, recently, people living near the drainage canal, especially the section from the bridge bordering Quynh 2 village and village 34, have discovered an underground river.

On days of heavy rain, local people discovered that water from the ditch flowed down into the ground, the water flowed quite strongly. At noon on September 5, 2016, the ditch bordering Quynh 2 village and 34 village, from the newly built bridge down 300m, with a depth of about 10 - 12m, the water flowed down the ditch strongly.

In many sections, water flows upstream from the bottom of the ditch, leaving no water in the lower part of the ditch. In many sections on both sides of the ditch, there are landslides, showing signs of land subsidence.

Many people in Quynh 2 village added that a long time ago, while hiring people to drill a well to get water, people in Quynh 2 village discovered signs of an underground water flow suspected to be an underground river with a fairly large flow.

Currently, people near the Chau Binh auxiliary dam drainage canal are worried that when the Chau Binh auxiliary dam drainage canal is completed and put into use, all the water from the headwaters of the Co Ba River flowing to this place will flow down into the underground river, and in the long run, landslides will occur, causing loss of life and property of the people.
