(Baonghean.vn) - On September 11, the names of nearly 3,000 victims killed in the bloodiest terrorist attacks in American history 15 years ago will once again be read out at Ground Zero, now the 9/11 Memorial Museum and the new World Trade Center in New York City.

The memorial service in New York will include six minutes of silence, marking six horrific moments of the terrorist attacks 15 years ago, including when two planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, when the two towers collapsed, when the Pentagon was attacked and when Flight 73 crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

During the first minute of silence at 8:46 a.m. local time on September 11 (September 11 evening Vietnam time), all church bells in New York will ring to commemorate the moment American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower 15 years ago. Both US presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, are expected to attend this event.

Attending the memorial service at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, US President Barack Obama is expected to give a speech there.

Earlier, the US leader affirmed, "We cannot afford to compromise with those who would divide us. We cannot respond in a way that would erode the fabric of our society."

In the September 11, 2001 attacks, from 8:46 a.m. to 10:03 a.m., hijackers took control of and hijacked four American civilian aircraft and crashed them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon, and an area near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Terrorist leader Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda network claimed responsibility for the attacks. After the terrorist attacks, the United States launched a global war on terrorism and opened a war in Afghanistan. In May 2011, American special forces killed Osama bin Laden in a raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

It was the first foreign-involved attack on US soil in two centuries and sparked the protracted US-led wars in Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq two years later.

The event of September 11, 2001 is considered a milestone in world politics, especially in the United States, leaving many lasting impacts. Many even believe that the event of September 11 opened a new era in human history - the Postmodern era.
