Vinh City conducts disaster prevention and search and rescue drills

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 11, Vinh City deployed a disaster prevention and search and rescue drill in 2016.

In a hypothetical scenario where storm No. 4 makes landfall, Vinh City has heavy rain and strong winds, and hamlet 8, Hung Chinh Commune, is a key area that is flooded and requires evacuation. The Vinh City Party Committee and People's Committee ordered the Party Committee and authorities of Hung Chinh Commune to evacuate 58 households and 180 people to safe shelters.

Hung Chinh commune has implemented the 4 on-site motto, with the support of the military command and the city police, to evacuate households, assets, and essential food from the danger zone to safe shelters. At the same time, rescue efforts were organized for people trapped in their homes due to fallen trees and sudden rise in river water levels.

The drill achieved good results, however, there were still some shortcomings in the implementation such as: not following the situation set by the organizers, not clearly showing what needs to be done immediately before, during and after the storm. Some members as well as residents still have a subjective mentality because for a long time in Vinh city there has not been a big storm.

Therefore, the Organizing Committee requested the Party Committee and the authorities of Hung Chinh commune to learn from experience to have timely measures to handle bad situations that may occur if there is a heavy storm to ensure absolute safety for people's lives and property.
