On September 18, District 6 Police, Ho Chi Minh City announced that they were detaining Tran Van Duc (48 years old, from Thua Thien Hue, temporarily residing in Ward 6, District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) to clarify the act of arson "murder".
Accordingly, at around 7:00 p.m. on August 28, people discovered a fire at a house specializing in selling votive paper on Hong Bang Street, Ward 6, District 6, so they tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful.
At that time, inside the house, there was Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Thuy (35 years old) and her 4-month-old son who were sleeping and trapped inside. The Fire Police Department of District 6 mobilized firefighters to the scene to put out the fire, broke down the door of the room and successfully rescued Ms. Thuy and her son.
Conducting an investigation of the scene and witness statements to clarify the cause, the investigation agency found many unusual signs of the fire, this was not a normal fire but was caused by arson. Inside the house, the smell of gasoline was still strong.

Inquiring about relatives of the burnt house, it is known that Duc is Thuy's husband, and the two often have conflicts.
On the evening of August 28, Duc and Ms. Thuy continued to have a conflict. Duc locked the door of Ms. Thuy and her son's room on the first floor and set it on fire. Not stopping there, when running downstairs (in the skylight area), Duc continued to pour gasoline and set it on fire so that Ms. Thuy had no way to escape.
After the fire broke out, Duc took 18 taels of gold and 10 million VND and drove away from the house on a scooter. Luckily, Ms. Thuy and her 4-month-old nephew were rescued by the Fire Police Department.
Identifying Duc as a suspect in the case, District 6 Police launched an investigation. After many days on the run, knowing he could not escape, Duc surrendered to the police.
