This is the first working session of comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan with socio-political organizations after the Politburo decided to assign Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan to directly take charge of and direct 5 socio-political organizations on behalf of the Politburo.
At the working session with the Vietnam Farmers' Union, the socio-political organization with the largest number of members (accounting for nearly 70% of the population and nearly 50% of the labor force of the whole society), comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan emphasized the role and position of the Vietnam Farmers' Union at all levels, and affirmed the great contributions of generations of Vietnamese farmers to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
The head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front pointed out 7 issues related to Vietnamese farmers that the Central Committee, with its responsibility, needs to focus on implementing and effectively coordinating with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and central ministries and branches, to contribute to improving the material and spiritual life and health of Vietnamese farmers as well as society.
These include mobilizing and guiding farmers to build and develop new-style cooperatives; establishing annual awards to honor and reward creative farmers; participating in mobilizing and guiding farmers to develop safe food production and business models and monitoring food safety; monitoring agricultural materials; mobilizing farmers to participate in protecting and monitoring the rural environment; capital sources for farmers to develop production and health insurance and agricultural insurance policies for farmers.
Sharing with the leaders of the Farmers' Association about the difficulties in consuming agricultural products, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that although Vietnamese farmers are creative and hard-working, the market is not their strength. Therefore, it is necessary to change awareness to connect farmers through new cooperative models, through the model of good farmers and good production and business cooperatives.
Comrade Nguyen Thien Nhan said that there should be a coordination program between the Vietnam Farmers’ Association and the Cooperative Alliance to build new-style cooperatives. Currently, there are 3.2 million good farmer households in production and business, and it is necessary to mobilize them to build so that within the next 2 to 3 years, there will be about 50,000 new-style cooperatives with good farmers and good business cooperatives. The Farmers’ Association also needs to pay attention to training, fostering, and guiding cooperative directors so that they are not confused in building new-style cooperatives.
Regarding the monitoring task, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan suggested that the Vietnam Farmers' Union should continue to be proactive and creative in implementing monitoring of agricultural input materials, monitoring in the environmental field, and monitoring the implementation of agricultural loan policies for farmers and cooperatives.
