With the will to become rich from the garden, in June 2011, Mr. Tran Trong Binh (born in 1980) in Thuan Son commune, Do Luong started a farm growing cajuput and raising pigs to increase his income. However, due to the distance from the center, the electricity was very weak and there was no water, so he decided to switch to raising chickens in the garden.

Borrowing 150 million VND from his brothers, Binh built a barn and invested in chicken breeds. In the first batch, Binh released 500 chickens. The chickens were raised away from residential areas, isolated from diseases, and allowed to roam freely on the hills, so the quality of the meat was delicious, and customers came more and more. He decided to borrow another 150 million VND from the bank and received support from the district farmers' association of 20 million VND to expand the farm and breed chickens. He also researched and learned about how to take care of barns and vaccinate chickens to prevent diseases so that the chickens could grow safely.

After 5 years of raising chickens, Mr. Binh's 6-hectare farm now has more than 10,000 chickens of all kinds, mainly supplying meat chickens for weddings, restaurants, etc. On average, Mr. Binh can export 2 to 3 quintals of chickens per day. Estimated revenue is 3-4 billion VND per year; after deducting expenses, net profit is 700 to 800 million VND per year. The farm creates jobs for 2 regular workers, earning 3 million VND per person per month.

Mr. Binh said: “Range-free chickens require a large area, with a density of at least 1m2/chicken. The chicken coop must always be well-ventilated, regularly cleaned, and equipped with equipment to keep them warm in winter and cool in summer. From the first 2 months, they are fed industrial feed, and from the 3rd month onwards, he feeds the chickens with corn and rice. In addition, the hill-free chickens will find their own natural food from worms, crickets...”.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien - President of the Farmers' Association of Thuan Son Commune said: "Mr. Binh's farm is an effective model for high income in Thuan Son Commune. In the near future, we will replicate the model and create conditions for other members of the Farmers' Association in the area to visit and learn."
