Generator suffocation while sleeping: 3 victims died, 3 people in critical condition
In the early morning of September 17, in Ninh Hiep commune (Gia Lam district, Hanoi), there was an incident of suffocation due to turning on a generator to sleep, causing 3 deaths and 3 others to be hospitalized. Currently, the 3 surviving victims are all in critical condition.
Speaking to reporters, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thai Son, Director of Duc Giang General Hospital, said that the three surviving victims who were brought to the hospital for emergency treatment early this morning included two females and one male, all very young, between 16 and 18 years old. When admitted to the hospital, all three victims were in critical condition, in a deep coma.
“The victims were diagnosed with severe gas poisoning. Immediately afterwards, all three victims were transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department for emergency treatment. At this point, the prognosis is still very serious, with a very high risk of death. It is impossible to predict anything in advance,” shared the Director of Duc Giang Hospital.

The incident occurred at 5:30 a.m. on September 17 at a factory in Hamlet 3 (Ninh Hiep Commune, Gia Lam District, Hanoi). Due to a power outage, 6 workers staying there (working for a shop in Ninh Hiep fabric market) ran the generator and fell asleep. When people discovered it, all 6 workers were lying motionless, 3 were still breathing. All the victims were taken to Duc Giang General Hospital (Long Bien District, Hanoi) for emergency treatment. During the journey, 3 people died.
It is known that after the incident, the authorities were present at the scene of the suffocation that left 6 victims in critical condition to investigate and clarify. According to some residents who were also present at the scene, when the incident was discovered, they smelled gasoline in the house.
