Miss Truong Ho Phuong Nga is about to stand trial for fraud.

Taking advantage of her title as beauty queen, Phuong Nga defrauded a wealthy businessman of 16.5 billion VND.

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Court is scheduled to hold the first-instance trial on September 21st and 22nd to hear the case against defendants Truong Ho Phuong Nga (29 years old, former Miss Vietnamese in Russia 2007) and Nguyen Duc Thuy Dung (27 years old) for the crime of fraud and appropriation of property.

According to the case details, Phuong Nga had a close relationship with the wealthy businessman CTM (residing in District 7). After several exchanges, Phuong Nga confided in Mr. M. that, as a beauty queen, she had many connections and could buy a house at a price lower than the market value. After calculating, Mr. M. transferred 6 billion VND to Nga to buy a house in District 5.

After receiving the money, Nga said the house in District 5 had already been sold and that there was another house in District 2, priced at 20 billion VND but being sold for 16.5 billion VND.

Trusting the woman's words, Mr. M. continued to transfer a total of 16.5 billion VND to Phuong Nga to buy a house in District 2. However, Nga secretly forged many documents for the sale of a house on Nguyen Trai Street (District 1) and then said that the house in District 2 had problems, so if he agreed, he should buy the house in District 1 at a similar price.

After carefully reviewing the documents and seeing that the house in District 1 was significantly more valuable than the one in District 2, Mr. M agreed to buy it. However, after a long time without success, Mr. M inquired about the purchase, but Nga evaded him and then cut off all contact, prompting Mr. M to report the matter to the police.

Phuong Nga and Thuy Dung were close friends. When Thuy Dung heard Phuong Nga present her financial problems to businessman M., she helped Nga alter and forge some documents so that Nga could deny owing Mr. M nearly 16.5 billion VND.

Miss Phuong Nga was arrested by Ho Chi Minh City police at 11:00 AM on March 19, 2015, while staying in an apartment in District 2. Subsequently, authorities also arrested Thuy Dung to clarify some related issues.
