US General: We need to use outer space to counter Russia.

The United States needs to step up its efforts to counter Russia and China in outer space. This is the statement of General John E. Hyten, the nominee for head of the U.S. Armed Forces Strategic Command.

"I think they are increasing their capabilities in space, especially Russia, which over the last 20 years has watched how we expand and use these capabilities in operational activities and in response they are also trying to expand their own capabilities to strip us of our advantage in conflicts," said General John E. Hyten.

He provided an affirmative answer to the question of whether the purpose of increasing Russia's capabilities in space is to "break" America's capabilities.

The general stated that the U.S. "needs to rapidly enhance its potential in using outer space to respond more quickly to (actions by other countries)." Answering a question about the threats the U.S. currently faces, the general placed Russia first, followed by China, but emphasized that the greatest danger remains North Korea because it is an "unpredictable" nation.
