Google launches YouTube Go to allow viewing and sharing videos 'offline'
Google has just launched YouTube Go, a new app designed to expand access to YouTube's massive video sharing service with the ability to watch and share videos without the need for the Internet.
Designed and developed for users in India as well as developing countries, YouTube Go allows users to save videos for offline viewing (offline without an Internet connection), thereby having a clear choice about the quality and file size of the download.
The app also lets users share videos with nearby users without using any data. YouTube Go builds on the Smart Offline feature that YouTube first launched in India earlier this year.
"YouTube Go is a completely new app for sharing and enjoying videos," YouTube Vice President of Product Management Johanna Wright said in a statement. "YouTube Go was designed and built from the realities of life in India, to bring the power of video to mobile users in a way that is more aware of their data usage and connectivity."
YouTube Go was announced at a Google event in Delhi, India, where the US search giant unveiled a number of new products aimed at the Indian market; many of which are expected to roll out globally. "In an increasingly mobile-first world, India offers us an early glimpse into the future of the internet," Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in an op-ed for The Economic Times./.
