(Baonghean) - During the peak months of the beach tourism season, nearly 3,000 youth union members participated in collecting waste along the nearly 10 km length of Cua Lo town's coastline and cleared 13 illegally collected landfills, returning a cool, clean, and naturally beautiful space and landscape to the beach here.

The sand is fine, the water is clear, but Nghi Huong beach often has some bricks, stones, and construction waste buried along the coast, so tourists are often hesitant to swim in the sea. The reason for this situation is that the water flows away the rocks and construction waste of some construction project units that are not aware of cleaning up construction materials after completing projects along the coast... Understanding this very well, Nghi Huong Ward Youth Union has focused on propagating and mobilizing people and construction units to raise awareness in environmental protection, handling and collecting construction waste. At the same time, many campaigns have been organized to attract union members and young people to participate in collecting waste and cleaning the marine environment.

Mr. Hoang Hop - Member of the City Youth Union, Secretary of Nghi Huong Ward Youth Union said: “During the 2016 beach tourism season, Nghi Huong Ward Youth Union organized 7 campaigns to collect waste and clean the marine environment, and each campaign attracted 30-40 union members and young people to participate. To replicate this method, the ward Youth Union coordinated with union members and young people from departments, branches, and mass organizations in the area such as: Police, Women's Union, Honda Club of Vinh City... to participate in cleaning the sea. Along with that, the ward Youth Union actively participated in the youth volunteer team for civilized tourism, so there were many practical and meaningful actions for the marine environment."

Always taking the lead in the volunteer movement to clean up the Cua Lo sea environment is the Youth Union. In recent times, the Cua Lo Town Youth Union has organized many meaningful activities to contribute to protecting the marine environment. These activities are often focused on the peak season of Cua Lo sea tourism (from April to August) such as organizing the program in response to "Earth Day" attracting more than 300 volunteers to participate with many contents: fashion show to protect the environment, signing a commitment not to litter, beach games, collecting beach waste... Or the Town Youth Union has very effectively implemented "Month of action for the environment", "World Environment Day", "Vietnam Sea and Islands Week" with exhibitions of maps and documentary photos proving "Truong Sa - Hoang Sa belong to Vietnam", "World Oceans Day"... One of the volunteer activities of the Cua Lo Town Youth Union that left a good impression on tourists and people is participating in the "Let's clean the sea" campaign.

The City Youth Union in coordination with the Veterans Association launched the campaign "Let's clean the sea" attracting nearly 1,500 union members, youth, cadres and members of the Veterans Association to participate in collecting and processing dozens of cubic meters of bricks, stones and waste from Lan Chau beach to Cua Hoi. From this success, Cua Lo youth continued to promote the movement in response to the program "Let's clean the sea" and in the last days of September, mobilized nearly 500 cadres, union members and youth from 37 union bases to undertake cleaning 1.5km of the central beach in Thu Thuy and Nghi Thu wards, resulting in the collection of 10 cubic meters of stones, garbage, shells...

To develop the Cua Lo youth volunteer movement to clean up the marine environment, Cua Lo town has established a Youth Volunteer Team to protect the environment and promote Cua Lo tourism culture (Youth Volunteer Team for Cua Lo tourism culture) consisting of 40 volunteers from 7 ward groups. Volunteers are equipped with protective pants, shirts, gloves, banners, 20 trash cans, 4 carts... and carry out the tasks of collecting garbage, preserving the landscape, protecting the marine environment, promoting the "5 no" policy and new policies of the town People's Committee on tourism, promoting cultural behavior in tourism... every Friday or Saturday.

Along with those activities, volunteers actively cooperated with the Tourism Security Team and the Cultural Committee of the wards to help 2 families quickly find lost children at the beach resort and participate in sorting waste, collecting cans to raise funds for savings... From these activities, the Youth Union for Cua Lo Tourism Culture has actively contributed to changing the awareness and behavior of people and tourists in environmental protection and tourism culture. With those meaningful activities, more and more volunteers are joining the team (currently there are nearly 100 volunteers).

Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Huyen - Deputy Secretary of Cua Lo Town Youth Union said: "Recently, Cua Lo youth have had many volunteer activities for community life, in which the most prominent is volunteer activities to protect the environment. In the first 9 months of 2016, more than 35 working sessions were organized, picking up stones, trash, cleaning the beach, including 6 clean-up campaigns organized by the Town Youth Union and 19 working sessions organized by the ward youth union, attracting thousands of union members, youth, cadres, employees of all levels, sectors, and mass organizations to participate in cleaning the marine environment. In the coming time, we will continue to promote this movement and consider it one of the practical activities of the youth to contribute to bringing a green - clean - beautiful landscape to Cua Lo beach".
