The suspect is accused of committing a series of burglaries and breaking into safes in unoccupied houses, with the total value of stolen property exceeding 3 billion VND.

On September 30, the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Court sentenced Pham Van Chieu (29 years old) to 14 years in prison and Nguyen Duc Thang (24 years old) to 8 years in prison for the crime of theft.

The verdict stated that on December 29, 2015, and March 8, 2016, Chieu committed seven burglaries targeting wealthy families in Ninh Khanh and Nam Thanh wards and Ninh Tien commune of Ninh Binh province, breaking open safes and stealing valuables.

Authorities determined that from 2014 until his arrest, Chieu committed 22 thefts in Hanoi, Ha Nam, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, and Ninh Binh, with a total value exceeding 3 billion VND.

The sale of the goods to Chiều was handled by Thắng.

In the coming period, the two defendants will be tried in separate court sessions also on charges of theft.
