'Village on fire' continues to mysteriously burn

(Baonghean.vn) -On September 26 and 27, in Luan Phuong hamlet, Dong Van commune (Thanh Chuong), two more fires occurred, causing further panic among local residents.

At noon on September 26, while turning straw on the road, suddenly seeing smoke and fire, Mr. Nguyen Duy Tho (54 years old) in Luan Phuong hamlet, Dong Van commune (Thanh Chuong) shouted, calling on villagers to come and put out the fire.

According to Mr. Tho, his straw house caught fire on September 18, and the remaining straw was left. After a few days of rain, he put the tarpaulin down on the side of the road. On the morning of September 26, seeing that it was sunny, he took the straw out to dry on the concrete road in front of his house. At 12 noon, after finishing his meal, he took a pole to turn the straw. While turning the straw, he saw the straw on the road catching fire, with smoke billowing, about 15 meters from where he was standing. Luckily, the villagers discovered it in time so they were able to put out the fire.

Mr. Tho said: “When I was carrying straw on the road, no one was passing by because everyone was taking a nap. Although I was always on guard against fires, I was still surprised to see the straw suddenly burst into flames on the road.”

On the afternoon of September 27, at the Luan Phuong hamlet cultural house, Dong Van commune police held a police forum to listen to people's opinions and denounce criminals, with the participation of the Deputy Chief of Thanh Chuong District Police and the leaders of Dong Van commune. Local people petitioned and requested the authorities to quickly find the cause of the fires. Representatives of Dong Van commune police and Thanh Chuong district police asked the local people to cooperate with the authorities in investigating the case. The conference conducted crime denunciation through secret ballot.

After the commune police conference for about 2 hours, at 8:00 p.m. on September 27, the straw bale of Mr. Tho's house, which had just been built on the afternoon of September 26 in the garden of Mrs. Tran Thi An (whose 3-room house had burned down on August 31), caught fire again. Hearing the shouts of Mr. Quang - who lived near the straw bale, the neighbors quickly ran to put out the fire. However, when the fire was discovered, the fire had already flared up, and although many people tried to put out the fire, the remaining straw of Mr. Tho's house had burned down.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khuong (26 years old) was in the group of people who were putting out the fire at Mr. Tho's straw house. She said: "I saw the fire rising high above the straw, below, the outside was not yet burned, the middle was already red, it was possible that the middle was burning out. I was surprised why it kept burning again and again in the families around this area."

Thus, this is the 20th fire in the past 3 months in Luan Phuong hamlet, Mr. Nguyen Duy Tho's house alone has burned down 4 times. Mr. Tho added, "The fear of fire has become a constant in my hamlet, not only my family but also the neighbors in the hamlet are very confused."

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Chuong, Chairman of Dong Van Commune People's Committee said: "The commune has fully reported to the superiors, Thanh Chuong District People's Committee has also come to examine the scene. The police have organized a forum to listen to people's opinions, and will focus on investigating and verifying the accused. The commune hopes that all levels will have measures to support the investigation into the cause of the fires in Luan Phuong.
