Pocket the 'secret' to enjoying transgender shows in Thailand

Caroline is the owner of Caroline in the City, and lives in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 2014, Caroline had the opportunity to visit Bangkok, Thailand. Here is her experience of enjoying a transgender show in this city.

Although I’m not a big fan of transgender shows, I know how much fun they can be from the time my friend had her bachelorette party in Bangkok before getting married. After a big party, we took a taxi to a ladyboy show. I was already staggering home by dawn by the time I got home by the second hour.

It was my first time meeting some of Thailand’s most famous citizens – the ladyboys. We bought tickets to see Calypso Cabaret, one of Bangkok’s famous transgender shows. It’s a popular tourist destination. The dancers dress up in elaborate costumes and perform traditional dances, or lip-sync to popular tunes. Not all of them are transgender, but most of them are.

The shows here are always popular, so I'll share some tips for those interested in this entertainment activity.

Come early to get a good spot.We took a long time to get a taxi and arrived late, the doormen barely let us in to watch the show. Give yourself plenty of time to choose the best view and order drinks. If you are a Western guy and sit in the front row, you may get teased or flirted with by the dancers.

Drinks and desserts are included in the admission fee.

Don't leave too early, stay and take pictures.After the show, the dancers will pose for photos in full costume with guests. They will not hesitate to pose for you.
