Israel introduces drones to Vietnam

According to Israel's Aeronautics LTD, two new attack UAV models, Orbiter-4 and Orbiter-1K, will continue to be introduced at the ADEX-2016 Exhibition taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Jewish Business Times reported that the ADEX-2016 exhibition will take place from September 27, 2016. The manufacturer's representative said that Orbiter-4 is the latest generation UAV version of Aeronautics LTD, developed based on the Orbiter-3 UAV.

Orbier-4 has a maximum flying weight of up to 50 kg, can operate continuously for 24 hours, and has a maximum flight ceiling of over 6 km. Meanwhile, the UAV Orbiter 1K has a similar design structure to the Orbiter 2. This is also the first suicide attack drone developed by Aeronautics.

Aeronautics says the Orbiter 1K takes off using a rubber catapult and can fly for two to three hours, carrying a multi-sensor array that integrates day and night optical channels.

This suicide reconnaissance UAV system is compact and easy to control with just one person from a ground control station. Aeronautics added that with the new design solution, Orbiter 1K can detect and destroy a fixed or moving target on the ground.

In addition, the Orbiter 1K UAV system can also operate independently in a certain area to glide over, detect a target and then destroy it.

If a target is not detected or a change in mission is desired, the Orbiter 1K's flight can be aborted and it will return to base and be recovered by deploying a parachute or airbag.

According to information published by Israel Defense in mid-2015, the Vietnamese Navy also ordered a number of Orbiter 2 unmanned aerial systems from Israel to replace the artillery force's ground-based frontline observation stations and provide the first accurate information about enemy positions as firing parameters for artillery positions.

In addition, Vietnam is also said to be looking to purchase additional Orbiter 2 unmanned aircraft systems and the larger version, Orbiter 3, to carry out various reconnaissance and surveillance missions.

Therefore, Aeronautics' introduction of the "suicide" variant Orbiter 1K will also give Vietnam a new option, depending on each specific mission.
