General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Biology, Dr. Nguyen Lan Hung said: "Chieu Lieu tree, also known as Small-leafed Banyan, has a small trunk, diameter of 10 - 20cm, layered canopy, small leaves, ensuring good resistance to high temperatures and strong winds, very suitable for the weather of Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular". Besides, comparing the stature of the soapberry tree and Chieu Lieu, we can immediately see a huge difference. While the soapberry tree has a large trunk, is tall, has a dense canopy, and is easily affected and broken by storms, Chieu Lieu is much more resistant.
Dr. Dang Minh Tan, University of Transport, shared that not only Vietnam but also Japan, Singapore... have planted trees under urban railways to increase green space for the city. In fact, planting and caring for trees in these areas is not as complicated as people think, and is very good for urban space. Dr. Tan commented: "I think Hanoi is lacking trees. Any space that can be used to plant more trees must be done immediately. Trees planted under railways also have the effect of saturating noise and attracting dust from above, reducing pollution for the surrounding space."
Regarding concerns that tall trees may affect the elevated railway, a representative of the Hanoi Green Parks and Trees Company Limited affirmed that the trees will be controlled in height and trimmed regularly. "Trees trimming is not only done in this group or this section, but from now on will be carried out professionally and regularly throughout the city, with the support of modern machinery and techniques," he added.
