Tim Webb, 57, from England, caught a Siamese carp weighing over 100 kg in a lake in Ban Pong district, Ratchaburi province, Thailand, Express reported on September 29. Siamese carp are the largest carp in the world and are commonly found in rivers across Asia.
Webb used bread and rice bran as bait. He then struggled for 90 minutes to bring the fish ashore.
"I knew this was a special fish the moment it bit the hook. I struggled for a long time, like I was pulling a small car. There were times I thought about giving up, but in the end I managed to pull it ashore," Webb recounted.
Weighing the fish revealed it weighed over 100 kg, breaking the record of a nearly 70 kg carp caught by Brit Andy Harman in Thailand earlier this year. Webb was thrilled with his catch and decided to buy the fish from the pond owner to transfer it to his pond at the Palm Tree Lagoon eco-resort in Ratchaburi province. He needed six people to help lift the carp onto the truck.
"It's fantastic to be able to bring it to my lake. The giant fish could attract a lot of attention. People will want to come here and try to catch it," Webb said.
