The miserable situation of the passenger who committed suicide by blowing himself up in a taxi

Drug addiction, a prison sentence and a serious illness are believed to be the factors that led a depressed man to commit suicide by hugging a mine in a taxi in Quang Ninh.

On October 4, Quang Ninh Provincial Police announced that the initial investigation results determined that the person who committed suicide by hugging a mine was Le Thanh (50 years old). Mr. Thanh was a drug addict and was sentenced to 8 years in prison for illegal trading of narcotics.drug.

On March 8, 2012, defendant Thanh was suspended from serving his sentence for 12 months due to serious illness, which was then extended to September 1, 2016. After the suspension period expired, he was absent from the locality, so the sentence could not be executed.

During the autopsy of Mr. Thanh, the police discovered that the palm of his left hand had two pieces of electric wire (one yellow, one red) connected together. Checking the residence of this man at Group 7, Hoang Thach area, Cam Thach ward, Cam Pha city, the police found two batteries, 8 pieces of plastic-coated single-core wire, the same type as the 2 pieces of wire found in the palm of the corpse's hand.

Police also discovered a letter to a man named Dung that appeared to be Thanh's last words. He said he had let everyone down, along with his illness, debts..., and that if he continued to live, he would only make others suffer.

Quang Ninh police believe that being on trial, sick, in debt and living alone may have caused him to become depressed and commit suicide by hugging a mine.

At 12:20 on October 3, the taxi company's switchboard received a call for a car to go to Le Thanh Nghi Street, Group 7, Hoang Thach Area, Cam Thach Ward, Cam Pha City.

At around 12:24, driver Dang Van Trung (29 years old) reported to the center that he had picked up the passenger. Eight minutes later, a horrific explosion occurred, killing Trung and the passenger on the spot. Debris and the force of the explosion flew dozens of meters away, damaging several vehicles and surrounding houses.

Authorities are continuing to investigate.
