Prosecution of Po Mu logging case in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 11, Que Phong District Police announced that they had issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Vi Van Hoai, residing in Hua Muong village, Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district, for the act of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection".

According to the investigation results, during the period from June to July 2016, the subjects Vi Van Hoai (born in 1989), Vi Van Hai (born in 1993), Lo Van Phong (born in 1986), Lo Van Pao (born in 1990), all residing in Hua Muong village, Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district, went together 3 times to plots 10 and 11 of sub-zone 60 of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve in Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district, sawed down 4 Po Mu trees, then sawed them into Po Mu wood panels of various sizes to bring back for use.

Authorities conduct experimental investigation of the case

The authorities summoned and escorted the above subjects to the scene. The subjects all identified the scene where the investigation experiment was conducted as the locations where the Pơ mu trees were cut down, and used chainsaws to reenact their crimes.

The experimental results are consistent with the crime scene investigation report, supplementary crime scene investigation report and collected investigation documents.

The total volume of timber exploited is 6.22m³, in which Vi Van Hoai directly sawed down 4 Po Mu trees and 3 subjects Hai, Phong, Pao participated. In addition, the subjects also confessed to having used chainsaws to cut down some Po Mu tree trunks and tops many times; some were cut down a long time ago and were still left near the area where the 4 Po Mu trees were cut down. However, due to the long time of exploitation, a part of the exploited wood was sold, the remaining small amount was used, so it is impossible to determine the volume of wood illegally exploited during these times.

Que Phong District Police have issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute Vi Van Hoai for the act of "Violating regulations on forest exploitation and protection", stipulated in Article 175 of the Penal Code. At the same time, they have issued a decision to administratively handle Lo Van Phong, Lo Van Pao and Vi Van Hai.
