Citing preliminary investigation results by German police that evening, security forces seized at the suspect's home in Chemnitz up to 1.5 kg of extremely powerful explosives and a lot of materials to make "bomb vests", specifically for suicide attackers. However, the specific target of the attack is currently unknown.

The terrorist suspect Albakr registered as an asylum seeker in Munich on February 19 last year and was then taken to Chemnitz. After three months, he was granted asylum for three years. Jaber Albakr had long been on the watch list of German security forces and was officially wanted by the police after being discovered buying bomb-making materials.

According to investigators, Albakr was trained in the use of weapons and the manufacture of explosive devices at a facility run by the self-proclaimed "Islamic State" (IS). In addition, this subject also learned how to make and assemble bombs on the Internet.
