The German Foreign Ministry on October 5 denied information that the West is pushing for sanctions against Russia for its role in Syria.

The announcement came just ahead of a meeting of a group of Western diplomats including the US, UK, France, Italy and Germany in Berlin to discuss the issue.

The German Foreign Ministry has confirmed that there are currently no international proposals to sanction Russia over the Syria issue. A meeting of Western diplomats in Berlin yesterday focused solely on ways to improve the humanitarian situation in Syria.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier later met with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura to discuss the issue./.
