Sick pigs are 'magically' transformed into popular roast pigs
Sick or dead pigs are roasted and sold to meat-stuffed sandwich stalls. This practice has been going on for the past 15 years.
Sick or dead pigs were bought by an unlicensed pig farm in Nhuan Phu Tan commune, Mo Cay Bac district (Ben Tre) for 300,000 VND/pig, then resold to meat-stuffed bread stalls. This practice has been going on for the past 15 years.

Ben Tre Provincial Police said that at around 4:00 p.m. yesterday (October 11), after receiving a report from the people, the provincial authorities went to inspect the pig slaughterhouse of Mr. Nguyen Van Tra, born in 1965, residing in Giong Giua Hamlet, Nhuan Phu Tan Commune, Mo Cay Bac District, and discovered in 2 freezers and a plastic barrel of the facility a total of 12 butchered pigs, weighing a total of 680 kg, discolored, purple, and emitting a foul odor.
According to Mr. Tra's confession, all the meat above is from sick pigs and dead pigs bought from local farmers at the price of 300,000 VND/pig. After being slaughtered at the slaughterhouse, the meat will be roasted and sold to local bakeries and neighboring communes at the price of 100,000 VND/kg. Mr. Tra's pig slaughterhouse is spontaneous, unlicensed, and has been operating for nearly 15 years.
The authorities confiscated and destroyed all the pigs and administratively fined Mr. Nguyen Van Tra 12.5 million VND.
