Couple arrested for acting as lottery ticket clerks, 450 million VND seized.

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 2nd, the Nghi Loc District Police announced that they have initiated criminal proceedings against Nguyen Thi Hai (born in 1982), residing in Nghi Xa commune, Nghi Loc district; Tran Quang Mai (born in 1983, Hai's husband); and Nguyen Huu Suong (born in 1972), residing in Nghi Long commune, Nghi Loc district, for gambling offenses.

According to investigative documents, from the middle of September 2016, the Nghi Loc District Police discovered a gambling den operating in the form of lottery betting in Nghi Xa commune (near the road leading to the Nam Cam industrial zone), causing a security problem.

The three individuals charged are Nguyen Thi Hai, Tran Quang Mai, and Nguyen Huu Suong.

After a period of surveillance, on September 22, the Nghi Loc District Police task force decided to catch Nguyen Thi Hai (born in 1982, residing in Nghi Xa commune) red-handed while she was directly recording lottery numbers. The seized evidence included over 18 million VND and 18 lottery slips.

Expanding the investigation, the police determined that Tran Quang Mai (Hai's husband) was directly involved in recording lottery bets over the phone for many other individuals. Among them was Nguyen Huu Suong (born in 1972, residing in Nghi Long commune) with a total amount of 30,740,000 VND recorded in lottery bets, so the police executed an arrest warrant for Suong.

Shortly afterward, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at the home of Hai and Mai. The search resulted in the seizure of 450,000,000 VND (four hundred and fifty million Vietnamese dong) in cash, along with some documents related to illegal lottery activities.

At the investigative agency, the couple Nguyen Thi Hai and Tran Quang Mai, along with Nguyen Huu Suong, admitted to their criminal acts.

The case is still under expanded investigation by the Nghi Loc District Police, who are completing the file.
