Nghe An releases strange turtle over 100 years old back to nature

(Baonghean.vn) - Early in the morning, the homeowner woke up to hear a dog barking. He opened the door and saw a large turtle crawling into his yard. Despite the high price offered, the homeowner still decided to release the turtle back into the wild.

The incident happened at 6am on October 12 at the house of Nguyen Tien Dung (30 years old) residing in Thanh Thuy town, Thanh Thuy commune (Thanh Chuong). Mr. Dung said that while he was sleeping in bed, he heard a dog barking, not knowing what was going on, then a student on his way to school stopped by and said "a turtle is in the yard". He went out to see and saw a large turtle crawling from the street into his yard.

The turtle weighs 13.5 kg.

The turtle is black, with a hard, thick shell. Its back has many Chinese characters-like patterns mixed with yellow streaks. Its belly is alternating between yellow and black. The turtle weighs 13.5 kg, is about 0.7 m long, and is nearly 0.4 m wide (under the belly).

Seeing the strange turtle, many locals and curious visitors came to see and observe carefully, but no one knew what kind of turtle it was, only guessing that it was a turtle from the nearby Dong Danh dam and that the age of this turtle was not less than 100 years old. That same morning, people from Hai Duong, Hanoi, and Khanh Hoa called to ask to buy it and offered the highest price of 80 million VND.

Many locals and curious visitors came to see the strange turtle.

Mr. Dung said that although many people asked to buy it and offered high prices, he would not sell it to anyone but would release it back into the wild. At exactly 11am on October 12, Mr. Dung and his wife brought the turtle to Dong Danh dam, a few hundred meters from their house, to release it, in front of many people.
