Vietnam may receive support from Denmark's $4 billion development fund

Denmark's Foreign Minister said that the country has set up development funds worth 4 billion USD to support countries. Vietnam can also be included in the list of recipients of these funds.

On the afternoon of October 11, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc welcomed Mr. Kristian Jensen on his working visit to Vietnam and welcomed the results of the talks between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Pham Binh Minh and Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Jensen. The Prime Minister was pleased to see that the relationship between the two countries has developed well in many areas, including ODA cooperation.

Based on the recent progress of Danish investment projects in Vietnam, which have been progressing smoothly and effectively, the Prime Minister assessed that the potential for trade and investment cooperation between the two countries is still great. Vietnam will propose a list of priority areas to attract investment and cooperation, and at the same time hope that Denmark will support and cooperate more closely in areas where Denmark has strengths such as green energy, renewable energy, healthcare, etc. The Prime Minister highly appreciated and hoped to cooperate more with Danish businesses, which are always conscious of protecting the environment, especially in the current context of climate change.

The Prime Minister also said that Vietnam is stepping up the fight against corruption and creating a favorable investment and business environment for investors, including Danish investors. The Prime Minister asked Denmark to influence the EU to soon sign the Vietnam-EU Trade Agreement.

Through the Minister, the Prime Minister thanked the Danish Government and people for providing ODA to Vietnam over the years and hoped that Denmark would continue to provide ODA to help Vietnam overcome current difficulties.

Regarding the East Sea issue, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Denmark to continue supporting the maintenance of peace and stability, ensuring freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation, resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, UNCLOS 1982, and fully and effectively implementing the DOC, and soon reaching the COC.

For his part, the Danish Foreign Minister thanked the Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him and was pleased that this year the two countries are organizing many activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Mr. Kristian Jensen assessed that this is the period when the two countries have the best relationship. In recent years, the two countries have successfully cooperated in the field of development and now continue to cooperate strongly in the fields of politics, economics and investment.

The Minister said that there are currently more than 130 Danish companies doing business in Vietnam in many fields such as beverages, machinery, education, etc. Denmark has strengths in the fields of green economic development, environmental protection, renewable energy and wants to cooperate with Vietnam in these fields.

Mr. Kristian Jensen also hoped that the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement would be signed soon, and announced that Denmark had established development funds worth 4 billion USD to support countries. With Vietnam's progress in reform, Denmark could completely include Vietnam in the group of countries receiving support from these funds.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the Minister affirmed that Denmark has many ships, transporting 10% of international goods by sea, so Denmark hopes that relevant parties will resolve the East Sea issue peacefully on the basis of respect for international law./.
