Vietnam entered the quarter-finals with an unbeaten record, beating North Korea 2-1, drawing UAE 1-1 and holding Iraq 0-0. |
On the evening of October 21, U19 Bahrain practiced at the stadium of Al-Alhi Club. Coach Abdulaziz Abdo Omar spent half of the training session for the whole team to watch videos of Vietnam's matches, follow the analysis of the strengths and weaknesses pointed out by the coaching staff and discuss tactics to deal with them.
“Vietnam caused a big surprise when they ranked above both UAE and North Korea, finishing second in Group B, and qualified for the quarterfinals. Through the matches in the group stage, it can be seen that this team is very good at defending but their attacks are quite simple. They mainly pass the ball up to a single striker, who has good physique to compete,” coach Abdulaziz Abdo Omar shared with Bahraini media.
The Bahrain head coach predicted that Vietnam will continue to stick to their defensive counter-attacking style of play in the quarter-final match taking place at 11:15 p.m. today, October 23 (Hanoi time). He asked his players not to be hasty or impatient in attacking and to look for goals to avoid falling into the opponent's trap.
Bahraini media reported that in order to stretch Vietnam’s defense, coach Abdulaziz Abdo Omar wanted his players to actively attack the flanks. The host team of the 2016 AFC U19 Championship has the second best attack in the tournament. In three group stage matches, the team scored seven goals, only one less than Saudi Arabia. However, Bahrain also has the worst defense among the eight teams that reached the quarterfinals, having conceded six goals.
Through the media, coach Abdulaziz Abdo Omar also called on fans to come to the stadium to cheer his team to defeat Vietnam and win the right to attend the U20 World Cup next year in Korea. This strategist expects that in the quarter-final match, the Bahrain National Stadium will be filled with 30,000 fans.
