Police apprehend gang that staged a robbery in the early morning hours.

(Baonghean.vn) - Using deceptive tactics, blending into a group of people waiting for a bus, and spotting someone vulnerable, one suspect would rush forward to rob them, while the other two would pretend to chase after the "robber" to hinder anyone from pursuing them.

According to Ms. Duong Thi Phuong (born in 1991), residing in Hung Binh ward, Vinh City, the phone theft occurred at 5:00 AM on October 3rd, when she went to the bus stop in Block 9, Quang Trung ward, Vinh City, to travel to Dien Chau district. Besides Ms. Phuong and two middle-aged men, there were three young men waiting for the bus. One young man with dyed blonde hair, about 1.6m tall, wearing flip-flops, stood close to Ms. Phuong and asked tentatively, "Where are you going so early?" "I have some business in Dien Chau," Ms. Phuong replied.

When Ms. Phuong took out her Galaxy S7 mobile phone to make a call, a young man standing next to her suddenly snatched the phone and ran away. Two other young men also chased after the thief amidst Ms. Phuong's shouts, but they did not return.

The suspects are Cao Xuan Cuong (blonde hair) and Chu Hong Son.

Determining that the three individuals were most likely part of the same group and committed the robbery, the Vinh City Police leadership assigned the Criminal Investigation Team to urgently investigate and clarify the matter.

One reconnaissance team investigated the suspect who robbed Ms. Phuong of her phone, noting his distinctive feature: dyed blonde hair; another team conducted investigations into all groups of individuals aged 17-22, unemployed, who frequently gathered for idle activities in Vinh City and surrounding districts, focusing particularly on individuals and groups from other localities.

Using a coordinated approach, the detectives identified a suspect matching the victim's description. During the surveillance, they discovered this individual was often seen with two other young men, aged 17-21, speaking with the local accents of Thanh Chuong and Quy Hop. Every day, these three would frequent internet cafes to play games, then in the evenings they would go to restaurants for meals and drinks, before returning to a guesthouse in Hung Binh ward, Vinh City.

The identities of the suspects were quickly clarified: The suspect with the dyed blonde hair was Cao Xuan Cuong (born in 1996), residing in Hamlet 7, Thanh Duc Commune, Thanh Chuong District. The other two suspects were Cao Xuan Thong (born in 2000), residing in the same commune as Cuong, and Chu Hong Son (born in 1996), residing in Chau Dinh Commune, Quy Hop District. Cuong and Thong are cousins.

After a week of gathering sufficient documents and evidence, on October 9th, the leaders of the Vinh City Police decided to urgently arrest two suspects, Chu Hong Son and Cao Xuan Cuong, for the crime of robbery while they were present at a guesthouse in Hung Binh ward.

At the police station, Cuong and Son confessed to their crimes. To fund their lavish lifestyles and hotel accommodations, Cuong, Son, and Thong planned to commit robberies targeting women in Vinh City. After surveying bus stops in Vinh City and learning that many people, including women, often carried expensive handbags and mobile phones, they devised a plan to rob them.

At 4:30 AM on October 3rd, the three suspects left the guesthouse, hired a taxi, and went to a bus stop in Quang Trung ward. They blended in with the passengers waiting for the bus to carry out their planned robbery. There, seeing Ms. Phuong take out her phone to make a call, and recognizing it as an expensive phone (recently purchased for 17 million VND), Thong and Son signaled to Cuong to act. Seeing Ms. Phuong preoccupied with her phone call, Cuong immediately approached, snatched the phone from her hand, and fled back to the guesthouse. Hearing Ms. Phuong shout "robbery, robbery!", Son and Thong immediately chased after her to catch the thief.

Upon arriving at the guesthouse in Hung Binh ward, they had breakfast together, then sold the stolen phone for 7 million dong to spend. Knowing that Son and Cuong had been arrested, Cao Xuan Thong fled. However, using professional methods, the Criminal Investigation Department of Vinh City Police arrested Thong to clarify his involvement in the robbery.

On October 11th, the Criminal Investigation Department of Vinh City Police initiated a criminal case, indicted the suspects, and issued a temporary detention order against Cao Xuan Cuong and Chu Hong Son for the crime of robbery. As for Cao Xuan Thong, the Criminal Investigation Department of Vinh City Police is currently holding him in temporary custody to facilitate the consolidation of evidence and case files.
