Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg aspired to become U.S. Secretary of State if Hillary Clinton were elected President, according to newly revealed emails from WikiLeaks.

According to USNews, a new batch of emails related to Hillary Clinton, recently revealed by WikiLeaks, shows that last year, a senior advisor to the billionaire contacted Hillary's aide, right around the time rumors surfaced that Bloomberg was considering a presidential run.

In June 2015, Neera Tanden, a longtime confidante of former First Lady Hillary Clinton, wrote to Howard Wolfson, a senior advisor to Bloomberg, asking "what's going on?" after reports surfaced that Bloomberg had decided to run for president and challenge Hillary.

Wolfson, who helped Hillary Clinton win the 2000 US Senate race as New York's representative, said the June 2015 rumors were "ridiculous."

Tanden then wrote: "So what position does Mike Bloomberg want in the administration if Hillary wins? Would being the US Ambassador to China be too small a position?" Wolfson replied, "It wouldn't be Secretary of State."

However, Tanden later forwarded the letter to John Podesta, Hillary's campaign manager, stating that Bloomberg wanted to become Secretary of State.

Later, when asked to comment on the news, Wolfson denied that Bloomberg wanted to become Secretary of State. "I think Mike made it pretty clear last year that he wanted to run for President."

Bloomberg, formerly a Republican and Democrat but now an independent politician, has decided to endorse Hillary Clinton for the US presidency. Bloomberg currently serves as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's special envoy on climate change.
