(Baonghean.vn) - Stretching nearly 4 hectares on the white cloud-covered mountain slopes of Ka Tren village (Na Ngoi, Ky Son) is the vast green Shan Tuyet tea area and the lush clean vegetable garden of the Youth Volunteer Force 10. 35 young men of the Force, with their youth, pioneered in reclaiming and opening up the high, barren, rocky area.

Youth Volunteer Team 10 was established in 2012 in Na Ngoi commune with current members of 35, most of whom are ethnic minority children in the locality. |

There are currently 20,000 tea seedlings in the nursery. These seedlings have been grown for 7 months and will be ready for planting in about 5 months. This is the seed that the Team will expand the planting area for next season as well as provide to the Mong people residing in the area. |

Currently, the tea growing area of 300 households that have cooperated with the General Team is more than 200 hectares. With the tea bud-forming areas, the output of fresh tea buds harvested in the first 8 months of this year has reached 28 tons, with a stable purchase price of 8,000 VND/kg, which has become a significant source of income for the people. |

According to Mr. Vuong Xuan Tru, Deputy Team Leader, the Team was established with the main purpose of linking and transferring production science and technology as well as organizing commodity production, creating jobs for young people and local people. From there, it contributes to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, limiting illegal forest burning for farming and replanting opium poppy in the area. |

Mr. Dam Ngoc Van, a technical officer of the General Team, is taking tea cuttings for planting. He is one of eight young intellectuals who graduated from universities and have brought their enthusiasm to the General Team over the years. |

Tea cuttings are taken from nurseries over 3 years old. After selecting healthy tea cuttings, technical staff will create pots within 1 year before planting. |

Besides tea plants, the Team is currently cultivating more than 300,000 seedlings of cabbage, kohlrabi and some other vegetables to supply to people during the vegetable growing season for the Tet market. |

The vegetable seedling area is carefully tended in the nursery and has a thermometer to check the temperature daily. From there, the irrigation system is regulated to provide the appropriate humidity for the seedlings. |

According to estimates, each sao of clean vegetable cultivation yields about 500 kg, earning nearly 5 million VND/crop. While the fertilizer is readily available organic fertilizer, the climate is cool all year round so there are few pests and diseases, so growers only need to take care of them. |

With scientific care techniques and a guaranteed infrastructure system, the quality and production output of the Team have been improved. Importantly, from here, a new wind has been blown, changing the mindset in the way of doing things and thinking of the Mong people in the process of escaping poverty on their homeland. |
