Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump attended the Al Smith Dinner on the evening of October 20th, an annual Christian charity event in New York, USA. The two presidential candidates sat just one seat apart, with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, seated between them.
Traditionally, the event serves as a break for candidates after intense presidential debates. Here, they crack jokes, make fun of themselves and their opponents.
Mr. Trump began his speech by saying that he is best known "for his humility."
"I'm not really sure if Mrs. Clinton is coming here tonight, because I guess you didn't email her an invitation. Or maybe you did, and she just found out thanks to the magic of WikiLeaks," Trump said. "We've learned a lot from WikiLeaks. For example, Hillary believes it's essential to deceive people by having one public policy and one private policy that are completely different."
Speaking after Trump, Clinton said, "I was surprised to be here. I didn't think he would be happy with a peaceful transfer of power." She suggested that Trump was overly concerned about his health. "Trump was so generous to send a car to pick me up for dinner," she said. "Actually, it was a hearse."
Billionaire Trump laughed.
Both US presidential candidates smiled at the criticism directed at each other and shook hands after the event.
